Supreme Court Takes Up Trump's Travel Ban, Let Parts Of It Take Effect

The Supreme Court handed President Trump a much needed victory. The court has re-instated part of his executive order that banned travel from six mostly Muslim countries until it hears arguments about the travel ban in October.

The executive order that Trump signed in March will mostly take effect, though the court limited the impact of foreigners with clear ties the United States. The White House expects the ban to take effect with 72-hours.

Trump suffered a series of defeats by federal courts over the legality of the ban. Most of those losses came from historically liberal circuit courts, including the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which is the most over-turned court in the country.

The Supreme Court also said it will consider a highly-publicized case involving gay couples and wedding cakes. The case involves a Christian baker in Colorado who refused to take an order for a wedding cake for a gay couple.  In its next term, the high court will hear arguments about whether businesses can discriminate against LGBT persons, based on religious objections.
