Night session on Tuesday evening kicked off with a round 3 ATP match featuring 2021 Cincinnati Open Champion Alexander 'Sascha' Zverev of Germany against American Brandon Nakashima.

For Zverev this would be his 2nd straight match against an American having beat Nishesh Basavareddy in the 2nd round.

Nakashima was playing his 2nd European having dispatched Belgian Alexander Blockx also in round 2.

Head-to-head Nakashima had never beaten Zverev in 4 tries.

The match started with both men trading breaks twice, before Zverev could break Nakashima and hold to claim the first set. The second set was interrupted by another rain delay (the second of the day). 20 minutes later play resumed. Zverev would go up another break, and at 5-4 in the second set with Zverev serving, a severe storm would hit the tennis center causing another delay that would lead to a stoppage of all play for the night.

The match would resume on Wednesday afternoon with the winner facing another match later in the evening. After the warm up, Zverev would only need 2 minutes to get the final game, and send Nakashima home.

Alexander Zverev defeats Brandon Nakashima 6-4,6-4.

He will play Russia's Karen Khachanov later this evening.
