PHOTOS: 2025 Cincinnati Open Rd 3 Shelton vs Bautista Agut

The third round of the 2025 Cincinnati Open was supposed to wrap up on Wednesday August 12th, but mother nature had other plans. Before the first night session matches could wrap up, torrential rain hit the Lindner Family Tennis Center stopping all play for the night. When play halted, only one ATP match had yet to start.

Ben Shelton and Roberto Bautista Agut was the final men's singles 3rd round main draw match left to play, was supposed to start around 9pm Tuesday. The players took court around 2:30pm on Wednesday.

The first set would see both men serve 6 games each. Both would hold 6 times. The difference in the set was Shelton faced 8 break points, and Bautista Agut was not able to cash in on them. The set went to a tiebreaker that Shelton controlled from the beginning and would wind up winning.

The second set looked to be following the trend of the first set starting out with 3 service holds, with Bautista Agut leading 2-1. Then the rain would come again. This time the players would wait almost 3 hours before play would resume. Shelton would serve coming out of the delay and hold serve. At 2-2 we would finally see our first serve break of the match, as Shelton would convert his first break point chance of the match. After that he held serve before getting another break and winning the match.

Ben Shelton defeats Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6(3),6-3.

Shelton will now play Jiri Lahecka in the Round of 16.
